(Re)-opened for business

I had the pleasure of showing off the farm to a mentor yesterday. Dana Morse from Maine Seagrant / UMaine Cooperative extension came out to see Winnegance Oysters, answer my barrage of questions, and help prep some oysters for harvest. Dana has been a huge help since the farm was just a vague dream to me. The budding aquaculturists of Maine are lucky to have him as a resource.

After nearly six inches of rain last week, the waters have finally re-opened to shellfish harvesting. I used the past week to catch up on cleaning and sorting oysters. There are a lot that are ready to go!  There are even more just shy of harvest-able size that should be ready before we close up shop in November.

I'll be out again Friday, gathering the bounty.
